渡米して初めてのクリスマス休暇。渡米前のバタバタした生活も少し落ち着き、思い切ってロードトリップを計画してみました。
たろが「スキーに行きたい！」と言っていたので、タホ湖も候補に挙げましたが、ロングドライブにまだ慣れていないことや、雪道や凍結道路への不安もあり、今回は南下することにしました。
今回の行程：
Day 1： Bay Area〜San Diego（途中Santa Monicaでランチと観光／運転時間約8時間）
宿泊：Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina
Day 2： San Diego観光（La Jolla Cove、コロナドアイランド、ミッドウェー博物館）
宿泊：Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina
Day 3： San Diego Zoo→South Coast Plazaでランチ→Aquarium of the Pacific（運転時間約3時間）
宿泊：JW Marriott LA
Day 4： Universal Studios Hollywoodで一日楽しむ
宿泊：JW Marriott LA
Day 5： LA〜Santa Barbara（観光）〜ホテル（運転時間約4時間）
宿泊：SpringHill Suites
Day 6： 帰宅（運転時間約2時間）
急遽立てた予定でしたが、行きたい場所をしっかり詰め込めた大充実の旅行になりました。初めてのアメリカでのロードトリップということで、長時間の運転に少し不安もありましたが、大きなトラブルもなく本当に楽しかったです♡
我が家では夫婦で運転するので、2時間ごとに交代するリズムがちょうど良かったです。
Road Trip: Bay Area to San Diego - Preparation
For our first Christmas holiday in the U.S., after a busy few months settling in, we decided to embark on a road trip to make the most of the season.
While our son, Taro, was eager to go skiing, we initially considered Lake Tahoe. However, given our limited experience with long drives and concerns about snow-covered and icy roads, we chose to head south instead.
Here’s our travel itinerary:
Day 1: Bay Area to San Diego, with a lunch stop and sightseeing in Santa Monica (8 hours of driving)
We stayed at the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina.
Day 2: San Diego sightseeing, including La Jolla Cove, Coronado Island, and the Midway Museum.
We stayed at the same hotel, Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina.
Day 3: Visit to the San Diego Zoo, then lunch at South Coast Plaza, followed by a trip to the Aquarium of the Pacific (3 hours of driving).
We stayed at JW Marriott LA.
Day 4: A fun day at Universal Studios Hollywood.
Another night at JW Marriott LA.
Day 5: Drive from LA to Santa Barbara with some sightseeing along the way (4 hours of driving).
We stayed at SpringHill Suites.
Day 6: Return home (2 hours of driving).
Even though we planned the trip fairly quickly, it was a truly fulfilling experience, packed with places we had always wanted to visit. The long drives made me a bit nervous at first, but everything went smoothly, and we had a wonderful time. We took turns driving every two hours, which worked out perfectly for both of us.
